The word of the day is: FRAUD!

I checked my online checking account balance a little bit ago, and there was a $4.95 charge from something called "Bennu Technologies". I didn't recall charging such a small amount to any company with that name, so I Googled it...and I found lots of information on them. I am so mad I am shaking. I called my bank--they're going to mail me an affadavit I'll have to sign and then they'll refund the money, but the money is not even the issue here.

Please, everyone, check your accounts for this charge--and be REALLY careful with your credit cards and debit cards, especially online. Use Paypal only, or go with trusted companies like Amazon. I haven't the faintest idea how my cc# could have gotten out--the only even slightly unusual places I've charged in the past couple of months are a tattoo shop that I have been to (and charged at) before and a seemingly reputable company where I purchased Greg's birthday present (well over a month ago).

Just please be careful. I am completely pissed off right now, just knowing some disgusting scam artist out there got my information. The charge is small enough that most people might not notice it--I also read accounts at the above links of people being charged as much ad $6.95 and as little as $2.95 by Bennu Technologies. So please please, everyone check.

I have to get a whole new card now, and then I'll have to link my direct debit stuff to this new card, which is a gigantic pain in the ass but better than knowing some schmuck who isn't work the dirt I scrape off my shoes has my information.

I don't mean to freak anyone out--there are so many online tales of people being scammed, but hey, I guess it happens to real people too.

I know I don't make a lot of public entries that aren't fandomy, but I think everyone needs to know this. Not putting it behind a cut because, again, everyone needs to see this.
